Camp Bus FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions about our Camp Bus.
Q: What is the Camp Bus?
A: Camp Wagalong has its own Custom Bus for home Pick Up and Drop Off.
Q: How do I sign up for the Bus Rides?
A: If you are new to Camp Wagalong…. We recommend your dog coming to do a Discovery Day. This gives your dog the full camp experience and allows us to get to know your pup’s unique personality, preferences, and play style, so we can ensure their time at camp is safe, fun, and truly enjoyable. Once your dog has done this, someone from our bus team will contact you to do a quick bus consultation.
If your dog has been to Camp before…just email/text, call, or fill out the contact form on our website and we will reach out to you to setup a quick Bus Consultation.
Q: What is a Bus Consultation?
A: It is a quick conversation to ensure some of the logistics of the transition from your dog's home to our bus is a smooth process. We cover items like invisible fencing, driveways, back-up plans if you’re not at home and so forth.
Q: How do I know if and when the bus is picking up in my neighborhood?
A: Our day camp routes are posted on our website. It lists many (but not all) the neighborhoods and streets we cover. For our weekly Day Camp riders, the schedule is the same every week. If you aren’t sure if a route picks up at your house, just send us a message, and we will double check. If we are currently not in your area, still please let us know of your interest as we plan to add new routes in the near future.
Q: What happens if the bus is full?
A: We have a waiting list that can be very helpful in a number of ways. One, if we have a cancellation, we will notify those on the waiting list about filling that spot for the day. If we have a spot permanently open up, we will look to the first dog on the waiting list to take that spot. Also, the more information we have from our valued dog families, the better we can plan and adjust for the future to serve you.
Q: How do I make sure my dog has a routine spot on the bus?
A: We do anticipate all bus routes filling up soon. Most day campers that ride the bus do get in a routine of riding every week. Once a dog is committed to a route, their spot can be reserved every week. If something comes up now and then, cancelling with 24 hours’ notice is fine. If cancellations become common, we’ll reach out to discuss. Your dog will never lose its spot without a conversation with us first.
Q: What if my dog is staying overnight, can they ride the bus?
A: Yes! We offer rides for overnight campers on Monday and Friday. These rides occur mid-day when we aren’t running our structured day camp routes. Each one of these routes is unique, but if you are close to any of our day camp routes, then we try to make our bus available to all our dogs on overnight stays that have been through the discovery day and bus consultation. Pick-up and drop-off times are usually 10:30-3:00.
Q What is the pricing for these rides?
A: Day Camp rides are a great deal, only $5 roundtrip for the day as Camp Club Members. The overnight camp rides are $10 per ride and you don’t have to be in the Camp Club to do so.
Q: Why is pricing different for the different types of rides?
A: Our goal with day routes is to cover expenses of the travel. Day Camp routes need to be efficient and routine. This helps the dogs and our valued drivers spend less time on the road and more fun and activity back at Camp. The overnight rides are more like an Uber ride, routes have to be recreated every time. These routes are much less efficient and therefore cost more.
Q: Do I have to join the Camp Club in order to ride the bus?
A: For Day Camp rides, yes. After a ride or two to determine if the day camp rides work well for you and your dog, joining the Camp Club is required. The routine of day camp rides fits right in to our Camp Club, which is full of benefits for our regular campers, see Camp Club for more details.
For overnight stays, all dogs have the option for bus rides. Just remember we only have so many spots and so much time, so book early.
Q: How is the interior of the Camp Bus setup? Is it safe?
A: We spent a lot of due diligence coming up with a safe bus design. The videos online of dogs sitting on normal bus seats facing forward next to one another isn’t a normal travel environment. These situations can easily lead to safety issues while driving from simple playing, jumping, or worse…dogs fighting.
Our bus has custom kennels permanently built into the bus that function in the same manner as vet recommended travel crates for dogs. Each dog has its own kennel space.
Q: Do owners have to be present for the dogs pick-up and drop-off?
A: We do require owners be present on the first drop-off and pick-up unless arrangements have been made approved by Camp Wagalong staff. After one stop we usually have the preferences and process down. If we have clear directions for future pick-up and drop-offs, then alternative plans will work.
